Well it’s time once again for me to join my friends Allie from A Gal Named Al, Tara from Mommy In A Nutshell, Holly from Pink Lady and Trina & Sara from Moms’ Coffee Date for Ladies Who Link. We are talking about our Memorial Day plans and how we are kicking off summer. If you are a blogger we’d love for you to link up with us and share your favorite ideas for kicking off summer.
I suspect if you’ve stopped by here any at all in the last month that you’ve already realized we “kicked off summer” in a BIG WAY by celebrating our sons college graduation and then heading to the beach for a week.
Benny is a pretty serious guy, but every so often the goofy side of him just slips right out and I love it!
Of course I am all too happy to share pictures one more time of our graduate.
I can’t think of a better way to kick off summer than by spending a week at the beach. The only downside is that now our vacation has come and gone. We needed to work it in between graduation and Benny’s new job so that meant an early vacation this year.
When our kids were younger Memorial Day marked the opening weekend of the pool and therefore the beginning of summer. The communities we’ve lived in in both Minnesota and now California don’t have many community pools the way the southern states do and so I really miss those days.
Memorial Day also marks the kickoff of grilling season, backyard barbecue’s and all things red, white and blue.
Pinterest is a perfect place to look for Memorial Day ideas and recipes.

How cute would this American flag burlap table runner be at your summer cookouts?
May is not only often thought of as the beginning of summer, but it’s also National Skin Cancer Awareness month.
It’s a good month to go for a full body check at your dermatologist (if you set you appointment up far enough in advance).
Use that sunscreen friends! You won’t believe how much sun you will still get even with it on. As a person who was just last week soaking up as much sun as I could, I can tell you it was not with covering any exposed skin with sunscreen and still being able to get a healthy glow.
And speaking of sunscreen. I used my Rodan and Fields lip shield this time at the beach and loved it.
They come 2 to a pack and have SPF 25. I loved the way it went on my lips. Super silky and not at all waxy. I put it on before walking in the morning too and will continue to do so now that I’m home. I think people often forget to protect their pucker.

First off, frame that bird on the beach picture- that's really neat (and looks like the one from the photographer of that dolphin picture!) Going to need to make those marble cupcakes- awesome! Hit up your local Walmart- I bought some super cute wide burlap ribbon a few years ago that comes in red stripes and one comes in blue with stars and then I lay them out as a table runner together. They were under $2/roll! I'm calling my derm this week for a beginning of summer check instead of the end- too many new spots popping up. Ugh! Thanks for co-hosting!
HA! The bird one I really took and I never did get my dream dolphin picture. WalMart for the ribbon is a good idea. Being a Texas girl you won't be able to wrap your mind around this, but out here we have these dinky little WalMart's not like what we were used to in the south. Whenever I'm traveling and go in a "real" one I always feel like I'm home (kinda sad, huh??) Same for the huge Targets. I so miss my Super Target with a full on grocery that I shopped at in MN. Katie made rainbow cupcakes like that a couple of years ago and they were so cute!!! Ari and Trip would love them! Thank YOU for asking me to be a co-host!
Those grad pictures are great!! You can just see how excited he is. That table runner is gorgeous and so festive.
Thank you Tara!!! We are so proud of him.
I was in Target yesterday and saw all the red, white, and blue things on the dollar aisle! They also had some really cute America t-shirts!
OH BOY...sounds like I'd better get to Target STAT!!!
Congrats on your graduate! How exciting and what an accomplishment! I must try those cupcakes! Chocolate covered strawberries are always a hit! Hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and thanks for co-hosting!
Thank you! We are beyond proud. I love a chocolate covered strawberry and the red, white and blue are so festive! Y'all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend too...Here's to the start of summer!!!
Love this post.
Thank you Regine!
I love the idea of neighborhood pools-wish we had that up here in New England! Thanks for the sunscreen reminder- I never wore it...until now. I had skin cancer this past year so this summer will be the first I am being religious about it!
Such an exciting start to summer!! We're getting ready to take our vacation in a week. It does stink that the vacation is over so quickly, but we had to work around our schedule too. Still so excited to go!

Hope you have a great time Brooke!!!
I love everything about this... all things summer! Bring it on! :)
I'm so ready for summer!!! I know you are super ready. You had to live through a long winter. XO
Congrats on the graduation! It's a big milestone for your entire family.
I am about to make an appointment for my first full body check....yeah I have never done it and I am a little nervous. I have been thinking about it this week so your blog is a good reminder to make that call! :)

Thank you Patty!!! Good girl, make that appointment. There's really nothing to be nervous about. It's not as "invasive" as you are probably thinking and you'll be so happy you did it! Good luck!!!
