Basics For Fall

As we are drawing to the end of summer and fall is beginning to move in in parts of the country it’s time to really think about what are the best pieces to have at the ready for our fall wardrobe.

Take inventory in your own closet. What can still be worn from previous seasons? What looks dated? What’s worn and needs to be replaced? Shop for items that can be worn multiple ways and for more than one season.

I’ve gathered some good pieces that will make great additions and basics that fall into the categories of tops, sweaters, pants, shoes and purses. Maybe we’ll tackle accessories in another post.

These are all clickable (affiliate) links that will take you straight to the item if you want to check them out and/or purchase any.
Many of these items I already personally own and love…actually a lot of them.

TOPS
I like to have a few good layering pieces and a couple that will stand alone

SWEATERS/JACKETS
Sweaters to layer over basic tees, tanks and pretty cami’s in a couple of styles and colors along with a good denim jacket and military jacket

PANTS
A good pair of regular jeans, distressed denim, black jeans and a pair of colored pants

SHOES
Block heel booties, peep toe booties, flat booties and a fun pair of flats

PURSES/TOTES
A purse in black and another in tan are my personal preference along with a good tote for traveling. An animal print clutch is perfect for adding interest to a night out outfit.

Have you started putting together your fall wardrobe? I really don’t want to see summer end, but I’ll be excited to start wearing the new things I purchased during the Nordstrom sale.

It’s time for me to get busy. Today we are packing up Katie and tomorrow we head to Nashville to move her back into the new dorm. I’ll be there until Labor Day visiting with Benny and friends of mine and my parents and brother are coming in next weekend to spend some time with us. I’m going to try to keep up with blogging, but if I go MIA you’ll know why. ?

Hope you’re having a great week. To all my friends who are sending kids back to college, I hope it will go as smoothly as possible. I know it’s so hard to let our “babies” go, but we’ve done our jobs and now it’s time to give them wings and let them soar.

Lisa

  • I'm still kicking myself for not grabbing the circle cardigan vs the long one....I think it would have looked better with my shape.

    • Well maybe this will ease your mind. I have to be really careful with the circle one because if the pockets aren't laying just right it adds to my hips?. My two long ones are on backorder until the beginning of November?. I want them NOW. Happy Hump Day! (oh and I keep gradually returning things...like yesterday I returned the cargo pants and then I see them on people and think "why'd I return those", even though I knew I'd hardly wear them. #thestruggleisreal)

  • It may be 98 degrees here, but I've had to wear sweaters and jackets at work all week! I'm excited to share my new fall pieces tomorrow! OMG til Labor Day??? Did you stock up the pantry and fridge for Kent!?

    • I loved your fall pieces!!! Yes, til' Labor Day. I swear I need to get an apartment there I'm there so much. Kent is a gem to let me travel the way I do. We left him well stocked!!! Wait til' you read about this trip...another travel catastrophe!!!! Not even kidding?

  • Leopard and booties are my jam! Heck, fall clothing is my jam, just love it! You have the BEST taste? When are we going shopping and for coffee? When you get back from Nashville, K? Love ya sweets, enjoy your day!

    • I think all things leopard are my jam...hahaha. Name the time and place and I'll meet you to shop and drink coffee? #ifonly Happy Friday eve my beautiful friend!

  • Love all the fall fashion! I hope y'all have a safe journey returning Katie to her dorm room and college life!

  • Darn it all, I tried commenting at work and I don't think it went through!! I'll tell ya what, this working thing is really getting in the way of my blogging schedule! Gheesh!
Enjoy your trip with Katie and I can't wait to see the new dorm. How exciting and CLEAN!!!!!! I know your heart will be so happy to have an extended stay with Benny and your friends, enjoy yourself!!!
Thank you for letting us know you might be MIA, I'd have to come looking for you if I didn't hear from you. Seriously, I'm not kidding. Not that I'm a stalker or anything but I like to know where my people are. Ha!
I'll be thinking of you, have the BEST time sweet friend!
    xo,
    Kellyann

    • I'm so happy to be one of your people❤️. You just need to quit that job...LOL. I think the whole CLEAN aspect is the most exciting thing ever. She's going to have that "new house smell". Seriously...SO AWESOME!! I'll post pics next week. Have a great day gorgeous friend!!!

  • A few years ago I concentrated on buying clothes in certain colors (red/black/gray/white) due to financial reasons. I wanted everything to mix and match. For the last few years I've just bought whatever looked pretty but I ended up with a bunch of clothes and not a lot of outfits (how many tops do you need to go with jeans?). This year I think I'm going back to those same colors but adding in wine. It'll just be easier getting ready for work.

    • First I have to tell you that whenever I see "Lisa C" it's the weirdest feeling because I went all through school k-12 with 2 other Lisa's and we were Lisa C, Lisa E (me) and Lisa P. Lisa C was one of my best buddies?. That's a smart way to do it! Adding wine this season will be great. It's a huge trend. I've never been a big fan, but I'm suddenly finding myself buying more of it! Happy Thursday "Lisa C"

    • They are the best and so comfortable. They seem to be sticking around too. If you want something different try the Halogen ones. They're really comfy too and super cute.?

  • These are such great fall staples! I especially love those tops! The peplum ones are super cute!

  • I'm definitely not ready for fall weather yet! I'm hoping to shop my closet after finishing the Faster Way!

    • YAY for you Lana!!! Can't wait to hear how it's going! Katie and I did leg day yesterday to squeeze it in before leaving...I'm sore this morning and I like it?
