Weekend Wrap Up – Last Weekend at Home Edition

It’s Monday and that means “another one bites the dust”. Now you’ll be singing that song all day if you happened to grow up in the 80’s. Yep, the weekend has come and gone and that also means Katie and I have 3 days to get her ready for us to fly back to Nashville on Thursday and then move her into a BRAND.NEW.DORM on Saturday. And when I say BRAND.NEW I don’t mean as in different, I mean as in just opening. This kid has hit the jackpot. She was supposed to travel abroad as I’ve been mentioning and that fell through when several members of her group dropped out and she decided she felt like she’d be happier if she just stayed at school in the fall. Honestly, this mama wasn’t mad about that. The closer it got the more nervous I was getting…but then again, I’m a nervous Nelly anyway. Back to the dorm…that left her and her roommate without a room reserved and as luck would have it, they managed to get placed in this brand new dorm that’s built to be hotel style to accommodate guests for summer lectures and is actually intended for upperclassmen. Not only will they be in this all new building, but they will have their very own bathroom for just the two of them. I am over the moon excited for her!

So how did we spend our last weekend at home?

Tried a new charcoal face mask.

Snuggled and watched TV.

Saturday morning we got up and headed into San Francisco to play for the day.

As far as we are concerned the BART is the only way to go!

I was in deep thought…

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of seeing the Cable Cars. The lines were soooooo long and the city was soooooo crowded Saturday!

A girl and her daddy❤️

I don’t even know why I’m looking at the menu. I get the same thing EVERY.TIME.

We weren’t the only people who wanted their ice cream.

If you’ve never been to SF or Ghirardelli, this is what $40 of ice cream looks like. Yes, it’s expensive, but 1.) It’s SO DELICIOUS and 2.) After you’ve walked and walked and walked some more you’d be willing to pay anything for a treat.

Think we enjoyed it?

We were walking back to the BART station and heard all these birds in a grove of trees and realized they were parrots. It was so cool. There were a ton of them and they were so loud. Kent remembered on a previous tour being told something about them and looked it up when we got home.

Here’s the article if you are interested.

Exhausted and headed home. We walked about 9 miles up and down big hills. We typically do something “touristy” when we go in, but Saturday we pretty much ate and shopped.

Sunday morning we got up and went to church.

Shop the look

Went to Starbucks and had the best drinks made by the prettiest Barista. Gotta’ stop in whenever we can while she’s here.

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful. Errands and browsing, dinner at home and a little TV.

So how was your weekend? I am absolutely in denial that we are already half way through the month of August. If your kids are starting school this week, then I wish you luck getting back in the groove and hope your little people are excited and happy to see their friends, like their teachers, and adjust to the new normal quickly.

Happy Monday friends!

  • I totally get your excitement over the new dorm situation. Stephanie had something similar happen to her last fall, but it was an athletic dorm. So nice! It kills my soul that you guys get to walk around Cali in cardis and jackets! It will be so dang hot here in Louisiana until about November! Enjoy your day, Girlie!

  • Sounds like the perfect way to spend your last weekend together! So exciting to move into a new dorm. Do they have to live on campus? Riley had to his first two years and I loved that it was required. I'm totally the same at restaurants....pretty much have my standard dish!

    • Hi Shelly! They have to live on campus until their sr. year or they are 21. She went in with almost enough hours to be a sophomore so she's wanting to try to get off next year (jr year) with a friend. (although this dorm is going to be so nice...we'll see) Happy Monday!

  • It sounds like it was an amazing weekend! I love San Francisco...I haven't been since, I think, 2012? Crazy! You and your daughter could be sisters, truly. And how lucky is it that she's getting a brand new dorm?! I remember the olllldd dorms my freshman year, and I would never wish that on anyone again haha

    • Hi Melissa!!! Aw, thank you! I wish I didn't see a gazillion wrinkles when I look at myself next to her gorgeous young skin.? Hope you and your sweet little guys are off to a great start this week!!!

  • Happy Monday !! Those birds, wow ! How cool ! That ice cream looks amazing, I've never been to SF let alone a REAL true Ghiradelli shop :) Would love to experience it !

    • It's a fun place to visit but I definitely would not want to live in the the city. That ice cream is by far the best ever!!! Whenever you go in the Ghirardelli store they give you a free piece of chocolate. OH YEAH!!! Have a great week Tammy!!!

  • That was a nice day with your daughter and the ice cream looked well worth the price! So love that coral pink on you, gorgeous.

  • What a sweet weekend! You and Katie are so cute together, what a great relationship you two have. Such a blessing! I love the charcoal masks, face masks and tv are high on my list of ways to relax on the weekend. I swear I have watched so much Netflix lately! And I am dying to go to SF. That ice cream looks divine, I'd pay $40 for sure. Eating and shopping make for a perfect day. Moving into a brand new dorm sounds like a dream, I can't wait to see pictures. I'm excited to see how you all decorate. Nowadays (there I go sounding all geriatric) the girls do such cool things on their dorms it's unbelievable. All that creativity! Nolan is moving into a townhouse with 3 other guys and I'm not holding out much hope that there will be any semblance of decor, lol. I'm really just hoping they have good supply of toilet paper and soap, hahaha!!! Have a great week sweet friend!

    • Oh my gosh...YES, the boys apartments? Benny is a clean person but there apt still has a funky boy smell. We were online last night looking for a cute shower curtain. There will be plenty of pics to come. Hope your week is off to a great start!!! XO

  • She is the prettiest Barista I have ever seen, hands down. I am commenting through tears as we are on our way home from drop off one. I know you soaked in all the memories you could this weekend! Thinking of you and extra hugs this week!

    • You're so sweet. I'm so sorry the tears are flowing. I wish we lived close so we could go out and commiserate. XOXO

  • I totally missed the news of Katie not going overseas any more! I'm sure she's bummed, but she has so many years ahead to travel, and you only get the on campus college experience for those 4 years. (Although this is what I'm told- I couldn't wait to get out of the dorms!) Do you like the art museum in San Fran? I'm trying to think of what we did when I went in high school, but I think it was just shopping and eating! :) Safe travels later this week!

    • I'm not sure I've even mentioned it much. It's a long story, but it's all good. I'm happy she's staying and you are right, she's got plenty of time to travel. I'm not really a huge art museum fan, but I love to shop and eat...LOL Big surprise there.

  • That is for sure college dorm lottery at its best! Good for her. She will have an awesome year! And that ice cream... I'm pretty sure I'd pay whatever. Haha!

    • Thanks Trista! We can't wait to see it Saturday and I recently met the "dorm mom" through one of my friends and she and I are so much alike so hopefully Katie will love her.

  • What a great weekend - we have our "last" weekend coming up, and then the boy heads out on Sunday afternoon. San Francisco is my favorite city - I was born in Berkeley, and we went to San Fran for our honeymoon. That ice cream looks delicious!

    • Aw, enjoy the weekend Lana! San Fran is such a fun city, but soooo crazy. This past weekend was so stinkin' crowded but there was a big music festival so that may have accounted for some of it. I love the weather here, but miss the south? I'm happy I get to spend the next 3 weekends in TN with both my kids. Yippee!!! Have a great day!!!!
