Fall and Flower Power

Welcome to the November edition of Ageless Style, where the first Tuesday of every month ten over 40 bloggers present a different style theme and show a myriad of ways to wear it, all the while proving you can still be fashionable and on trend over 40 and beyond.

I don’t know about you, but that sounds pretty good to me. I refuse to be a women who just throws in the towel and lets herself go thinking my best years are behind me. Nope, not gonna’ do it. I intend to be a cool grandmother (eventually) and love going places with my daughter and being told we look like sisters.

Up until this past summer I’d say I was not a fan of many florals even though they were a staple in fashion. For some reason they just weren’t on my radar, but I found one and then another and well now, I’m feeling a little more flowery and lucky for me because our theme this month Flower Power and the mastermind behind it is Daenel of Living Outside the Stacks.

I may be sounding like a broken record, but Target is killing it on their website and I.am.loving.it! GIRLS! If you aren’t occasionally perusing the Target website, then you need to change that ASAP. Now that I’m preaching, I need to listen and give it some more time myself.

I have been finding so much good stuff on the website that I never see in store. There are pages and pages of good things.

One of my most recent orders included this super cute flowery top. Not only was I drawn to the black and blush colors, but it’s baby soft too, which is something else y’all have probably caught on to by now. I love me some soft clothes. I’m talking like really love. I don’t like itchy and I don’t like stiff, but I love soft!

If you’ve been thinking florals are just for grandma’s apron, think again. They are huge on the fashion playground and play well with others. They especially like stripes and plaids. Pattern mixing has had a presence in home decor for years and years and in the last 5 years the fashion world has woken up and taken notice.

For many it might be scary the first time you mix that leopard print and a stripe or plaid. It may even feel wrong, but trust me on this one, it’s anything but wrong. As a matter of fact, it’s the complete opposite of wrong, it’s RIGHT!

I chose to go with bold yet understated accessories. Does that even make sense? My pink Nickel & Suede earrings look like they were made just for this top. My birthday present to myself (do you do that?), was my new KS tassel necklace and it’s the cherry on top, perfectly pink to go with the flowers and layers with my little KS pendant like a champ.

Need a little more flower inspiration? Take a look at these outfits, and guess what? They are all from Target, all very reasonably priced and I don’t think anyone’s first guess would be you found them at the bullseye.

  • I cannot believe you and Target have struck again! That top looks terrific on you and the colors are perfection - black and blush are gonna take you through all the seasons. The N&S earrings work so well. I can see it with blush bottoms in spring and summer - I may have just talked myself into getting it myself! Ha! All your florals are lovely my friend and you wear them so well!
    Love you beautiful lady!
