Hi friends! Well we are just a little over one month out from the wedding, and I’ve been shopping for my dress, so I wanted to share some mother of the bride dresses I’ve tried on while they are still available. I’ll be saving the one I purchased to reveal after the wedding. I can tell you it’s the one that made me twirl around like a little girl.
My mother of the groom dress was beautiful and I loved it, but it was form fitting, and I knew this time I wanted to go in a different direction. I wanted something more flowy, that wouldn’t require shape-wear, and I wouldn’t feel restricted or self conscious.
My first try-on were some dresses at the bridal store my dress for Benny’s wedding, and Kaite’s wedding dress came from. There were some pretty options, but most of them didn’t meet the above criteria. Maybe I’ll eventually share those with you, but for the most part I don’t think they can be linked for you to shop.
I started by ordering dresses and had one of my best friends (who went with me last time), along with Katie and Erin come over for a try on session.
Most of the dresses I ordered were too big. I started by ordering size 4 in all of them. I wasn’t familiar with the brands and didn’t know they ran large, so I had to do some reordering. Some of them I knew were no’s so they didn’t get reordered.
Today I’m going to share 3 of the dresses with you as part one of my Mother of the Bride dress hunt series.
So I had super high hopes for this one. I love the colors and the print, and I’m obviously into the one shoulder style right now. This dress runs big, and it’s made for someone with more up top than I have. Even when I sized down to the 0, the chest of this dress still didn’t fit properly, and I didn’t want to buy something that was going to require a lot of alterations or basically need to be remade. Still, I think it’s a beautiful dress, it has pockets and checks all the other criteria I had in mind.
This dress was a strong contender. Very strong. I love the way it looks in photographs, and it was one of Kent’s favorites. In a size 2 it fit very well. The reason I ultimately didn’t choose it, was the way it almost has a little cap sleeve. I preferred a more narrow shoulder. Again, this one has pockets, and I don’t know what it is about us women, but we sure do love a pocket.
This dress is so beautiful and feminine. I really liked it and so did the girls, but Katie felt it read a little too “bride”, so that was a veto. I love a halter neckline. It’s very flattering especially if your shoulders are more on the square side. This is a size 4, and it fit well through the hips, but was big in the top. That’s not surprising because I do have about one size differential in my top and bottom. That’s another reason I like the dresses that have more of a fit and flare style.
Do you have a favorite out of these three? I can’t wait to show you the dress that I decided on…all in due time.
Here are some tips for shopping for Mother of the Bride dresses. I’d love for you to pin it for future reference.
The 4th of July is just around the corner and that means lots of cookouts and backyard BBQ’s. There are so many fun outdoor games for July 4th, and you can order them on Amazon to get them in time. These would be fun to have set up in stations around your yard, or some of them could easily be carried to a park if you’re gathering there.
I’ve seen several of these in use at the beach as well. Big kids/young adults and even older adults sometimes enjoy having something to do when spending an entire day on the beach.
GIANT WOODEN YARD DICE – You can play two games with these giant dice. Yardzee or Yardkle. HAHAHA!
YARD DARTS – Not only are these yard darts, they glow in the dark. Now personally, by the time it gets dark during the summer we’re already in our jammies, but if you like to walk on the wild side, these are for you. LOL
YARD CONNECT FOUR – Did you have Connect Four as a kid? I did, and I loved it. I think this would be fun, and even the littles could play.
BADMINTON – This looks like such an easy way to play Badminton. This game has been around forever. This net doesn’t require spikes, and I think that would keep it from sagging.
LADDER TOSS – We bought one of these years ago for Katie’s graduation party. I had played it somewhere and it was a lot of fun. We will be pulling this out the next time we have a gathering.
HORSESHOES – I haven’t played horseshoes in years, but I used to love it. Most kids these days have probably never heard of it. Let’s bring it back.
BOCCE BALL – The only time I’ve played this was at an Italian restaurant, but it was a lot of fun.
GIANT JENGA – Not gonna’ lie, this one scares me a little. We went to a party with a reallly giant one, and I was terrified it would fall on someone. I think this one is a slightly smaller scale, so probably a lot safer.
CORN HOLE – This is a crowd pleaser, and I see a lot of people who take them (in a wagon) out on the beach to play. Little kids love playing with the bean bags for this one.
Check out this post with red, white and blue looks to go with your new outdoor games for July 4th.
Or this post has more red, white and blue all American summer style that would be fantastic for the 4th.

Dress #2, but I see what you mean about the cap sleeve.

Those are all such lovely options!
Liked all three of the dresses - looking forward to seeing what you picked!
Love, love #1 and didn't even realize you were going to be the mother of a bride. How exciting! Our daughter and I had the best time when she got married. It's one sweet memory for both of us. I hope it will be for you and your daughter as well.
