Hi friends! I had to make some returns at Anthropologie this weekend, so I took the opportunity to try on three beautiful holiday party dresses.
NOTE: The lighting in the dressing room was horrible…so the pictures aren’t the best quality.
So this one you’ll probably either love or hate. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to try it on. This is the Somerset dress that Anthropologie is known for and they carry year round in various patterns and textures. Two of the dresses I tried on, are Somerset.
I’m dying to add some metallic to my closet. The material is so soft and “slippery”. Not a stiff fabric and it would be beautiful paired with a faux fur cropped style jacket. (use code COAST15 on jacket) I wear and XS in these dresses. And side note: the lighting in the dressing rooms is awful!
This is the second Somerset dress in velvet. This dress comes in three solids and a print velvet. Last year this dress was uber-popular and Amazon came out with a crazy good duplicate for it. I’ll share a photo of one I ordered so you can see for yourself.
This gold dress is the Amazon version of the Anthro dress and it is gooood. Last years version came with the little pearl closure that you could remove, so I assume it still does. It’s great for adjusting the neckline. If you’re taller, you might like this one better because it’s longer than the Somerset dress. I have to say it’s a great deal and quality. This would be a fabulous wedding guest dress for the holidays or winter in general.
This dress is a cute dress and much shorter. It would look good paired with boot or booties, and I think a western style/cowboy boot would be a really cute option. You could also add a sheer tight and black boots like they show on the website. If you check the website photo, you can see the dress has a print in it that’s also green. It’s slightly longer in the back, and has pockets. Yes, it’s green, but you could wear this all winter long if your winters aren’t too harsh.
There are so many beautiful holiday party dresses out there. I wish I had someplace to go that called for a dress, but we don’t have anything on the agenda…as of yet.
The 4th of July is just around the corner and that means lots of cookouts and backyard BBQ’s. There are so many fun outdoor games for July 4th, and you can order them on Amazon to get them in time. These would be fun to have set up in stations around your yard, or some of them could easily be carried to a park if you’re gathering there.
I’ve seen several of these in use at the beach as well. Big kids/young adults and even older adults sometimes enjoy having something to do when spending an entire day on the beach.
GIANT WOODEN YARD DICE – You can play two games with these giant dice. Yardzee or Yardkle. HAHAHA!
YARD DARTS – Not only are these yard darts, they glow in the dark. Now personally, by the time it gets dark during the summer we’re already in our jammies, but if you like to walk on the wild side, these are for you. LOL
YARD CONNECT FOUR – Did you have Connect Four as a kid? I did, and I loved it. I think this would be fun, and even the littles could play.
BADMINTON – This looks like such an easy way to play Badminton. This game has been around forever. This net doesn’t require spikes, and I think that would keep it from sagging.
LADDER TOSS – We bought one of these years ago for Katie’s graduation party. I had played it somewhere and it was a lot of fun. We will be pulling this out the next time we have a gathering.
HORSESHOES – I haven’t played horseshoes in years, but I used to love it. Most kids these days have probably never heard of it. Let’s bring it back.
BOCCE BALL – The only time I’ve played this was at an Italian restaurant, but it was a lot of fun.
GIANT JENGA – Not gonna’ lie, this one scares me a little. We went to a party with a reallly giant one, and I was terrified it would fall on someone. I think this one is a slightly smaller scale, so probably a lot safer.
CORN HOLE – This is a crowd pleaser, and I see a lot of people who take them (in a wagon) out on the beach to play. Little kids love playing with the bean bags for this one.
Check out this post with red, white and blue looks to go with your new outdoor games for July 4th.
Or this post has more red, white and blue all American summer style that would be fantastic for the 4th.

That gold one you picked out from Amazon is in my wish list already (just in a different color!). I love velvet.
That silver dress - whoa, that's a lot of metallic! I am loving velvet. I really like that shorter dress!
