Today’s post is a two-fer. A fashion post and Workin’ It Wednesdays link up.
White and denim is one of the freshest, classic looks you can sport. I found the perfect transition blouse on a trip into Loft a few weeks ago and naturally I can’t find the exact one online now but I am linking to a really similar and equally cute one in white and the same blouse in a gorgeous, fun print.
I love everything about this top. The weight is perfect for summer days that aren’t stifling or going into fall and with so many cute details, well it’s just precious.
I paired it with lighter denim perfect for a summer combo and my favorite leopard sandals. These jeans have the sweetest frayed hem. Not too ragged, but a little extra touch without being distressed.

How do you like these pieces? What are your favorite summer colors to wear?

Today I’m doing an abbreviated post for Workin’ It Wednesday too and linking up with Erika and Shay.
The August prompt for this is “Getting geared up for back to school”.
Well when you are the mama of a college kid (and one that’s now graduated college) your back to school routine is different.
Instead of buying crayons and notebooks and rulers and pencils, you’re buying sheets, and towels and storage and hangers and trash cans and refrigerators and on and on.
Space saver bags can be your best friend if you’ve got a lot of stuff and a little space.
This is what putting a child in college 2 times zones away looks like.
And when mama walks in and sees this (even though it’s not for the first time because it’s only two doors down from her first dorm room) she just wants to make it homey before she leaves her girl.
Two days and a lot of money later, you’ve got a home away from home and she’s ready to roll.
We got lucky and Katie had a place to store most of her stuff so she didn’t have try to transport it all back home.
This is how getting ready for school looks this year. We are shipping her car to Nashville at the end of the week and loaded in a few things. Would you believe there’s a bike in there? Benny wanted Kent’s old bike so it’s in pieces under all the stuff.
Katie got lucky and is going to be living in a brand new dorm this year. We can’t wait to see it and get her all moved in. She and her roommate will have their own bathroom. Eeeekkkk!!! You know I’ll be sharing that with you in a few short weeks. Much too short to be exact.
Happy hump day friends! I hope your week is going wonderfully.
Lisa

Click on link ups on the HOME bar at the top of the post and see who I’m linking with today.
I’m going to highlight one link in particular. Jersey Girl, Texan Heart. Monica has written a sobering post on Auschwitz with details and pictures from her visit there. She is passionate about it not only because it was an abomination but because it’s personal to her due to her ancestry. I’d encourage you take the time to read it and educate yourself on this horrific time in history.

First of all, you look Adorable. I have those leopard sandals and they're my favorites too. Anytime I can wear a cute flowy top makes me happy! Wow, and we thought we had it rough moving the boys downstate. The new dorms will be awesome, one of ours lived in new dorms last year and it was so great being the first one! Have a beautiful day sweetness!
Lisa says
Thanks sweet Andrea! Yep, moving one over 2,000 miles is a whole different ballgame, but it's all good. These dorms are hotel style so each room has a BATHROOM. All the praise hands my friend. Talk about luck. These girls got lucky!!! This dorm will be used for summer housing when the college hosts lectureships. Awesome! She's going to have that new house smell just like you are soon. Love that!!!

Aw her dorm looks so good!! I know you're missing her already!! Also, I'm loving the loft top, such a great transitional piece.

Thanks Brooke! That's actually last years room. We go next week to move her in this year…stay tuned for that. A BRAND NEW dorm. We are OVER THE MOON excited!!!

I will take any information you have about preparing for BTS with college students. We are one year out and I feel so ill prepared. I would love to start getting things throughout the year but maybe I should just stock pile gift cards. I think shipping the car is the way to go, if they are out of state.
Lisa says
It really is if it's as far as ours go. If you do the math, it's not really much more $. I know what you mean about trying to stock pile. I like to watch for the sales AFTER the kids are all back. The end caps at Target have great treasures for college kids if you have an idea of where they'll be. It's hard though because you don't know exactly what they'll want/need. Watch for mattress toppers, mattress pads and x-long twin sheets, & washcloths. I often see those on CLEARANCE. The gift cards are a great idea!!!!
The Pouting Pensioner says
White and worn denim, that just stays fresh and timeless. You look wonderful with all that flowing and fluting. And it looks like you've been pretty busy car-stuffing too!
Lisa says
Hahaha. Yes, fill her up! Less to take on the plane when we go? I love the sweet white top. Have a great weekend!!!

That white top is precious and I love the frayed hem jeans with the leopard sandals – such a cute outfit on a beautiful lady! I am always drawn to white, flowy tops. I don't know what it is about them but I can never get enough.
Last year Nolan lived in a dorm with a community bath. The good news is it got cleaned twice a day. This year he's moving into a townhouse with 3 other guys and only 1.5 bathrooms. GROSS!!!!! I am afraid of what the bathroom will look like after the first week. Nolan is leaving next Saturday, 8/19 and it is coming way too fast for me. Collin starts his senior year in HS on Monday – ugh – just yesterday they were in preschool I swear!

I started getting heart palpitations at first when I thought the Target shopping was happening prior to the move. I was like, "Why is she getting trash cans in California?!" Then my dumb blonde lightbulb turned on! I love your new white top! I just picked up some wine colored pants that would look great with that for the beginning of fall.
Lisa says
You're so funny!!!! My dumb blonde lightbulb is kinda on constant blink sometimes…LOL I got a pair of wine/burgundy pants during the sale too…I'll have to put them together. Thanks for the idea!!!
Lana says
Denim and white is my favorite combo – and I love this look with the leopard sandals. I'm so not ready to send my kiddo back to college – summer went too fast!
Lisa says
I know…me either. She was already planning to stay in Nashville next summer before she even came home this summer so I've tried to spend every second with her that she's wanted.? We leave a week from today…I can't believe it's already time.
Tara @ Mommy In A Nutshell says
What a mix of emotions that move must be! On one hand, it's an exciting adventure and a fun project to shop for. But on the other, it means she will be far from home for months. Your an amazing Mother for being so supportive of your kids. There is nothing else that can replicate having your mom as your greatest cheerleader.
Lisa says
Thank you so much sweet Tara!!! I do hate that she's so far away, but I love how happy she is and I totally get it (especially since I went to school there and have such awesome memories.) I did suggest we get a trundle bed and I can live with her though…LOL. We've had such a great summer together and I hate to see it draw to a close, but this part of being a mom. Your little cuties are lucky to have such a sweetie for a mom too. I hope you've felt well this week. Such an exciting time in your life!!! XO

Your top is so pretty! Love the boho vibe! Your daughter's dorm looks so cute! I'll be sending mine off to college in a few years and it will be bittersweet.

Thanks Jill! It's a fun top. Sending them off really is bitter sweet. So exciting, scary and emotional. She loves her new college life though. We go back next week for year #2. Have a great weekend!

Yes to white on denim and I like that particular style of top – so cute. And that dorm room is adorable. Makes me wish I had gone off to college! Thank you for sharing this fun, exciting tidbit and for linking up with Thursday Moda!

Thanks for stepping in and hosting! Have a great day!
