Happy Monday friends! I hope your weekend treated you well. We are on Cloud 9 around here with Katie being home and looking forward to a week of shenanigans.
Disclaimer: This post is a true representation of how my mind works. It’s like I threw all my thoughts up in the air and they landed here all willy nilly. Welcome to my world! But hey, there is some good info in here?
Linking up with the girls over at The Blended Blog is becoming a regular Monday thing here at Coast to Coast. This week we’re talking about skincare which makes this picture seem oh so appropriate. So let me ask you…how did you fare with the time change this weekend?
Anyone else feel like they need a little extra help hiding the signs of a little lost sleep? LOL
Unless you’re new around here it won’t come as a surprise that I’m pretty passionate about skincare. It’s something I feel all women need and especially women over 30. While your skin can continue to look good in your 30’s and hopefully even your 40’s with minimal care the sooner you start regularly taking care of it, the better. This is one of those areas where it pays to be proactive.
There are a gazillion (yes, I checked) different skincare options out there. How do you know what to use? Well that will likely depend on who you ask, but if you ask ME, I’m going to tell you to use Rodan and Fields. Y’all also know I love me some R+F. In fact, until I found these products the only thing I really did to care for my skin was to wash my face every day. I don’t just mean in the shower either. I have always taken off my makeup at night.
I haven’t always put the appropriate amount of time or money into taking the best care of my skin. Do I wish I had? Yes. When we’re young we look in the mirror and think, “I don’t see any wrinkles, why do I need to worry about caring for my skin?” There are diapers and then dance classes, swim lessons, gymnastics classes, soccer teams, cheer camp, football camp and on and on that take up our money and time.
The best thing we can do for ourselves friends is to take care of our bodies, and what covers our bodies? Our skin.
Whether you use Rodan and Fields or another line of skincare, the important thing is to USE it. Consistency is key. You aren’t going to get your desired results if you just use a product every once in a while.
While I do use an entire regimen and actually go back and forth between two, if you know you just won’t get that much done, then do just a few things. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
This picture represents most of my skincare routine. (This is an old picture and I have a new roller?)
There are a lot of things that can be done for the health of our skin:
~Use the right skincare for your type of skin
~Drink plenty of water
~Maintain a healthy diet
~Moisturize daily
~Wear sunscreen
~Exfoliate 3 times a week
~Clean you makeup brushes regularly (see post here)
~Get enough rest
Here are a couple of other helpful tips:
Crazy as it may sound, date your products. I like to know how long I’ve been using mine. I put the date on my mascara too as a reminder that about every 3 months, it’s time to change it. This is also how I know just how long they are lasting. When I tell someone my eye cream lasts at least 4 months, I know because I can look back and see it.
Get all the product out of your tubes. Just because you can’t “squeeze” any more out doesn’t mean it’s empty.
Cut the top off and then put it back over the bottom.
If you know you won’t do the whole kit and caboodle, then here are my top 5 suggestions.
Remove your makeup! If you don’t have the time or energy to wash your face, use a product like a face wipe or Micellar water to remove that makeup.
Exfoliate 3 times a week to remove dead skin cells and encourage turn over in new skin
Use a good eye cream!
Use sunscreen EVERY DAY! Many of my products like my face primer and my face powder have sunscreen built in, but if yours don’t, use an additional one.
Okay friends. What are you doing to take care of your skin?
As always, I’m happy to answer any questions you might have about Rodan and Fields or just skin care in general. Feel free to message, email or leave a comment and I’ll get back to you.
AND today is the last day to get my all time favorite product, LASH BOOST FOR FREE when you purchase a regimen as a new Preferred Customer. Lash Boost is $150 retail and is beyond wonderful.
If you are interested in finding out what skincare is right for you and where to get started, feel free to use my Solution Tool HERE and get a recommendation.
We can’t turn back time, but we can sure put some speed bumps in the way and make it a little harder.
One last thing. There is no right or wrong when it comes to what products YOU choose to use. The only wrong answer is doing nothing. Find something you love and then go with it. I feel like a broken record sometimes sharing my love for what I use, but when you’re passionate about something, you just want to share.❤️
Have a great week!!!

Nice job friend! I am so impressed that you put the date on all of your products, what a great idea that I need to start asap! I love all the tips you included for healthy skin and you’re right the sooner you start the better. I think young adults today (now I sound so old, right?) have access to so much knowledge right at their finger tips – they’re so fortunate!
I’m so happy your girl is home and I’ll be y’all are in wedding planning heaven!!!
xo,
Kellyann

I love that y’all are in “Cloud 9”, my favorite cloud to be. Me too, just had lunch here with my college boy but he is being good and hitting the books now instead of shopping with Mom, lol. Wow, you did so good showing us your awesome skin care routine, well done!
Lisa Richardson says
Cloud 9 is the BEST and you would know. What a good boy doing his studies while he’s home. We’re blessed with some kids, Andrea. Enjoy what’s left of the week. It’s going much to quickly for my liking. XOXO
Mary says
Oh Lisa.
So. Spooky. Last week I talked around the bathroom taking pics which show I’m tight (cheap?). I took pics of a couple of tubes I’d cut up just like in your pic! I’ve been doing that since my teens. I intend to post that one this week. Just who’s got a hidden spy camera in whose bathroom?!!!
Doesn’t help that I’ve just been watching Homeland tonight and Carrie’s got a spy camera in the Chief of Staff’s home!!
So spookily funny! Wishing you a fab week, darling, x.
Lisa Richardson says
Well of course we have the same methods Mary. We’re just smart that way…LOL Have a great day! XOXO

Great post and I so agree consistency is KEY and I’m trying to convince my 38 year old daughter of that! I do my tubes just like you do to get that last drop out. It’s been such fun reading everyone’s routine/regime or the lack thereof. Happy week!
Lisa Richardson says
Thanks Lea! She should definitely start. It’s so hard. My mom kept telling me to use stuff and I didn’t listen. Hard headed girls, we are. XOXO
Alison @ Puppies & Pretties says
Umm that cutting the bottle to get it all out is GENIUS.
Lisa Richardson says
Thanks Alison. I wish I could take credit, but I saw it somewhere else a long time ago. Fun to share though. Happy Thursday!!!
Allie Lee says
Love that meme- too true! I couldn’t fall asleep so I did laundry and gave myself a manicure! Hope you and Katie are having a blast!
Lisa Richardson says
You were productive. Good for you. We’re having fun (although she doesn’t feel 100%. We went to the dr and he doesn’t think she’s got a kidney infection but the sample went off for culture. I hope it comes back positive so we can get some medicine to help her feel better.) Happy Thursday!! XO

I am definitely guilty of being inconsistent with my skln care products, eep. I’ve been intrigued by R&F for awhile, but my bank account is not, haha!
Lisa Richardson says
It’s hard to dole out a large sum, I know! Whenever you think about it though, just divide it up and think of it more on a monthly amount. All the regimens last a minimum of 3 months for me. The eye cream lasts 4 months. The exfoliator lasts me a year and my Lash Boost last a good 4 months, sometimes longer. Let me know if you ever just want to get your feet wet with a product or two. Hope you are having a great week. XOXO
Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom says
I need to start putting dates on my products, I guess you put the date on when you first open it? I was wondering the other day how old some of my mascaras are. EEK! I agree that exfoliation is so important as is sunscreen! I need to start putting sunscreen on my hands I was thinking the other day. LOL. Darn sun is wicked! I love that first image, it had me laughing!

Yes, I date it when I open it and start using it. It’s always surprising how long stuff lasts. I hate it when I forget to do it. I’ve started getting some nasty brown spots on my hands so I need to concentrate on using sunscreen on them too. Hope you’re having a great week!!! XO
Biana Perez says
I love your tip of cutting the bottle / tube to get more product out and especially writing the dates down – I have to start doing that!! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston
Lisa Richardson says
Those have been so popular…who knew?! I do like knowing how long my stuff lasts.
Lisa Richardson says
Isn’t that great. I of course saw it somewhere else, but had to share. Happy Thursday!! XO
Laura says
Oh my gosh I do that with all my tubes of products and get SO much more product out that way! I thought I was the only one! I love the idea of dating products! I definitely need to do that! These are fabulous ideas! Thanks for sharing!
Lisa Richardson says
Thanks Laura. I really like to know how long stuff lasts. My husband got me doing that….he dates stuff
Lisa Richardson says
Great minds think alike Laura? Have a great day!!! XOXO
the cape on the corner says
i always cut down my tubes, it gives me a bizarre satisfaction to feel like i’m getting every last drop out of something. but never did it occur to me to put the top of the bottle back on to prevent from drying out. that’s the best idea, and i can’t wait to cut something up and do it, lol.
thanks!!
Lisa Richardson says
LOL, you’ll be just cutting down your bottles here and there. Happy to have some helpful info. I’m like you, I want to get every last drop out! Happy Thursday!!! XO
Lana L. says
What a great idea to date your products! Wearing sunscreen every day since I was a teenager has been great for my skin, but I definitely need more help now that I”m in my 50’s.
Lisa Richardson says
Thanks Lana! I think that’s been everyone’s favorite take away. Happy to share!!
Lisa Richardson says
Thanks Lana! I hear ya’ on the sunscreen. I barely leave the house without it. Happy Thursday!
