Do you believe style is ageless? If you don’t, then just get on Instagram and search the hashtags #agelessstyle or #fashionover4o and see if we can’t change your mind. You’ll find women of all ages, shapes and ethnicities showing you that age is merely a number and you have the power to be “stylish”.
I’m thrilled to be a part of The Ageless Style Link-Up and I’m so glad you’re here.
The Ageless Style Link-Up – The first Tuesday of every month ten over 40 bloggers present a different style theme and show a myriad of ways to wear it, all the while proving you can still be fashionable and on trend over 40 and beyond.
This month the theme we are tackling is WHITE OUT and was picked by Paula from Dimples On My What? Which by the way, I absolutely love the name of her blog. So clever!
Before we get into it, let me ask you a question. How do you feel about wearing white year round? White after Labor Day? I know, I know, it’s supposedly acceptable to wear white year round and on an occasion I’ve tried to fudge the before Easter and after Labor Day rule, but I really think when you are a true southern girl, it’s just hard-wired in and isn’t easy to change. Much like my accent. You can take the girl out of the south, but you can’t take the south out of the girl. #blessyourheart #amensister
Once again, upon finding out about the theme, I had already taken some photos that were pretty much perfect for it. #thankheavens
This one is kind of a two-fer for me. I’ve been saying for a while I wanted to get a kimono and had purchased one that didn’t quite float my boat, so back it went. I was in Ross one day cruising around and happened upon this one. Did y’all know my husband works for Ross in their corporate office? You know that can only mean one thing…employee discount. HA! Let’s just say I picked this up for a song. You can’t just walk into another Ross and necessarily find the same one, so I’ve found several that are similar to link at the bottom. I love the feel of this white one with the blue on it. So crisp and clean-looking.
I recently asked on Instagram for suggestions of things y’all might like me to post about. One sweet reader/follower suggested “How to style a kimono without making yourself look larger than you are”. Great idea! I immediately had a thought on how to tackle this. I think the best way to accomplish it is perhaps with “column dressing”. Keeping one color as your base layer and then adding a kimono on the top. I also think the under layer should be pretty fitted and not too loose to avoid adding bulk. If you find yourself worrying about this, then a base of black is always a great way to elongate and slenderize, and then add a fun kimono with black in it to the top. I found a few here that would be super cute.
I grabbed my favorite white jeans and a white cami as my base layer and chose a neutral shoe. My favorite cami’s are from the Gap Factory and I’ve been buying them for years. I have a drawer full and wear them under so many things. I chose to dress up this look with a favorite gold statement necklace and some Alex and Ani bracelets to go with the Boho vibe.
My new kimono can just as easily be worn with a pair of jean shorts for a more casual feel and it’s also great for grabbing when going out to a restaurant where you might be cold.
Looking at this picture where I have on a navy cami, I could achieve the theory of column dressing by throwing on a pair of dark denim jeans, add a neutral heel and have a great night out look.
And because sometimes it’s just fun to see behind the scenes, I’ll leave you with this lovely photo. I don’t even know how I managed to capture this. I mean really. Hahahahaha! We have to be able to laugh at ourselves and y’all know I’m nothing if not real on here.
You can shop kimonos similar to mine here…
Each month we have a guest host and this month it’s Dawn Meyers of Dawned on Me. You can find her on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.
How cute is she? I may quite possibly have a girl crush. I absolutely adore her sense of style and would love to borrow this entire outfit.

You crack me up with that last photo, Lisa! I have a ton of those photos especially of my mom—she doesn’t smile easily at times, and when she doesn’t, she always looks mad!!

Oh, this is a pretty kimono! I really like the white and blue together. It completes your white base wonderfully and looks so cute with your shorts. Very cool about your husband working for Ross. They already have such great deals and you get an employee discount on top of that???!!! Lucky. 😉

Yay!!! You found a kimono that is perfect! I love this one and your all white look is perfect with it. The neutral show is great. Wearing it with shorts is one of my favorite ways to use my kimonos in the summer – they really do add the perfect layer. Such a cute look my sweet Southern friend! That picture at the end is cracking me up – you look like you’re about to crack the whip #bosslady!

Lisa, your outfit is head to sandal fabulous. I’d wear it everywhere. I love how you went monochromatic then sprinkled some color in the form of that yummy kimono. What a find, and the fact that you got a great deal on it makes it makes it even better.
Xo, Jonet

Thanks Jonet! The best deals are literally the best! Happy weekend. XO

I just haven’t felt the vibe when it comes to the long kimonos but you sure do wear it well. Somehow I always feel like I loo like the “flying nun” in them. I’m getting more and more comfortable with white year around, not white shoes, but clothes. Love that last picture, so funny!
Lisa Richardson says
Thanks Lea! It’s take me a loooong time to get brave enough to try one. Not being very tall doesn’t makes them not fit me well.
Laura says
That kimono was an amazing find!! I’m a huge fan of white and blue together. I love the way this kimono moves! It’s great on you!
Lisa Richardson says
I know, right? I figured if I only wore it a time or two, I’d get my moneys worth out of it. Thanks Laura!!!
