Andrea is hosting Show and Tell Tuesday today and it’s all a buzz about Kids birthday parties. Well let me just tell you that if you are the mom of kids who are now college age then you know when they were little our pictures weren’t digital. They were old school film, have each and every shot developed and hold on to even the bad ones. (well that is if you’re like me and just can’t throw a picture of your baby away no matter how blurry or terrible it is) This makes posts like this much more challenging for us.
We had some super fun birthdays and I really should have hunted out at least the 6th birthday Princess Party because it was probably my favorite, but I didn’t have time to comb through all the albums. And there are a lot of them because remember I save every.single.picture. HA!
I did have this one picture of her in her princess dress though. This was about 3 but she was able to wear that dress until she was at least 6. I made it for Halloween that year.
Once the kids hit the teens there’s a lot less hoop-la and especially if it’s a boy. With a girl you can get away with a little more fuss…at least in our family. None the less, on their birthdays I like to try and make it all about them. They get to pick what’s for dinner and dessert and I try to throw in some surprises. Maybe you’ll see an idea that you want to hold on to for the future.

18 calls for a donut birthday cake for breakfast made of 18 donuts.
I love this picture!!!
Katie’s 14th
Katie always loves balloons!
Katie’s 16th was combined with an after Homecoming party.
A little early morning greeting.
Katie’s 18th breakfast. We downsized from 18 donuts (since there were no swimmers left in the house) to 18 donut holes.
And of course the last day of high school was a big celebration too.
And just because they leave for college the celebrations don’t stop…
Katie’s 19th
We went to Nashville to celebrate?
CONGRATULATIONS?!?!?
Ummm, sure!
Yes, I grabbed the wrong back in my box of decorations and didn’t realize it until I was hanging it at my friends. Made for a funny story.
Luckily she had my back and had a Happy Birthday banner.
No matter what age they may be there’s always presents, usually balloons and ALWAYS something yummy for dessert. As you can tell they usually pick the Brownie Trifle. {recipe here}
So there’s a snapshot of what the big kids birthdays look like. A lot less involved. Enjoy the littles and look forward to the bigs.
Happy Celebrating!!!
Lisa

These are great! I think you're so right- it's those little special things that make all the difference as they get older! I loved reading through these. =)
Lisa says
Thanks Bethany. I'm hopeful they'll have good memories❤️

What a coincidence I was just thinking about what to do for my 12 year old's birthday. Can I get away with simplifying at this age? The stress and time consumption of themed parties makes me want to shuttle a van load of boys to the trampoline park instead. So much easier! And probably more fun for them.
Lisa says
By all means go to the trampoline park!!! There came a time when it was worth almost any amount of money to keep them out of the house and let someone else do the work…LOL.
A Gal Named Al says
I love these pictures! And now I want donuts…
Lisa says
Awww, thanks Allie…and ME TOO!!! The Cub grocery store in MN had yummy donuts.
