So this summer represents a real transition in our lives.
The year Benny started college was an equally as big transition but for different reasons.
Kent had started his job here in California in January and commuted for six months so that Benny could finish his senior year in Minnesota. So once Benny graduated…on Thursday…that next Monday the movers swooped in and packed all our stuff to be shipped to CA and put in storage until our house was done. The kids and I headed to VA to see my parents and then on to TN to register Benny for school just like we just did for Katie. Kent returned to CA to work and the kids and I lived out of suitcases, bouncing from place to place for SIX WEEKS. Thankfully we have wonderful family and friends who didn’t mind us coming and staying, and staying, and staying.
So back to this transition.
While that one involved both a move and putting a “child” in college, this one is putting the last “child” in college and coming home alone…just the two of us…all by ourselves.
Time to move on and talk about our trip before I go into a deep depression and need medication.

On the shuttle to the airport. Fresh and ready to go!
Gorgeous day to fly.
Emergency Swedish Fish
Our flight was diverted to St. Louis because the Nashville airport closed temporarily due to a severe storm.
Friday morning we were up and at em’ early.
We had to be at school by 8:30 to begin all the registration talks and orientation information.
Katie is going to be living in the same dorm I lived in my freshman year just 2 doors down from my old room. It’s really going to be surreal when we move her in.
Lilly dresses similar to Cassie’s
This is Cassie. She is the daughter of one of my college roommates.
They’ve met before but didn’t really know each other and took up and became fast friends.♥
Like mothers, like daughters.
Cassie will be in the same dorm in the fall.
I sure hope our alma mater is ready for round two. 😉
Katie spent the night on campus so she missed all the fun at dinner Thursday night with these girls.♥♥♥
This is Isabel, Me, Rosalee, and Elizabeth.
We have been friends for about 18 years +/- and they are some of our favorite people in the whole world. We’ve taken lots of mini vacations together, eaten tons of Mexican food and played hours of card together.

Friday morning it was back to campus for more information.
The mascot for “our” college is the Bison
#seewhatididthere
There is a long standing tradition of “painting the bison” for different events and occasions by clubs, sororities, fraternities and various groups.
It was painted with “Congrats” to welcome the incoming freshman to campus.
This is a Christian college she is attending and they were getting ready for a bunch of high schoolers coming in for a week long youth rally.
It was so fun to walk around campus and see scriptures written in chalk all over the sidewalks.

Friday night we went to dinner with 6 other couples at one of our favorite hang outs.
It. was. a. blast.
We all went to college together except for Kent and our friends Paul & Elizabeth who are the friends we always stay with. Elizabeth took this picture for us.
These are my girls!!!
Julie, Me, Kim (Cassie’s mom)
Carla, Laura, Alicia
Carla, Alicia and I have been friends since elementary school and Benny roomed with Christopher (Alicia’s son) his first year of college.
Saturday we went on the hunt for a bed for Benny. He’s moved into an apartment with 3 friends and will live there when school starts back.
Katie trying it out.
This is Murphy. He’s part chiwawa and part beagle. He has a very sweet temperament and Katie fell madly in love with him♥
This made for a special Father’s Day for Kent because we all four got to be together. As the kids get older this opportunity to celebrate together is becoming less frequent and we try to soak in any time we can enjoy these two together.
#grateful
We grabbed lunch after church before we had to take Kent to the airport.
These two painted walls were on each side of an alley next to the restaurant and made for darling backdrops for a couple of quick pictures.
Katie and I hung around in Nashville with our friends until Monday and then went to Kentucky to visit another friend of ours.
As soon as we got to KY we headed for the country club and spent the afternoon at the pool relaxing and getting some much needed sun. Sitting by the pool is absolutely one of my favorite ways to spend my time.
similar top here, here and here
This is Dawn and she’s another one of my “girls”. She and her husband Jeff became good friends of ours when we all lived in Richmond and are like part of our family.
So let me ask you…a lot of times people comment that Katie and I look alike. We just don’t see it. What do you think?
Thanks for coming along on this adventure with us.
We are back home and ready to make the most of the rest of the summer before we make our return to Nashville in August.
Have a great week friends!!!
