Hi friends! Today is Mother of the Bride Dresses, part two. I’m breaking down my MOB posts into bite size pieces, for me and you. HA! We are now 3 weeks out from the big day. Honestly, I’m ready for it to be here and be done. Is that bad? Engagements are like pregnancies and the last few months are just a waiting game…although I feel like every day someone wants more money from me. Dress #1
This one was actually a front runner for a short time. I really love it on, but then when I saw it in the photos I felt like the color just kinda died. I do however believe in person it’s really pretty, but since there will be a lot of photos that day, I wanted something that would photograph well. This one also runs large. I ordered all of the dresses to start in size 4, but ended up ordering 2’s and even a few 0’s. This one I could wear the 0, but I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to take a deep breath all day. The pockets on a lot of these dresses are also a major plus. If you are a Mother of the Groom, this would be a very viable option. If you read my Mother of the Groom post (5 years ago…crazy) you might remember the saying is the MOG is “supposed to wear beige and keep her mouth shut”. HA! I believe that totally depends on the bride. I was very lucky that my DIL is a literal doll, and was not that way at all.
Dress #2
This one was a good one too. I loved the color, style and the fit. Again, I needed to size down in it to a 2. If I hadn’t already tried on another dress I was super excited about (the one I ultimately kept) I would have been very tempted by this one.
Dress #3
I feel like this dress falls in the category of a more traditional mother-of-the-bride dress. Here again, a good choice for a mother-of-the-groom, seeing as how it’s beige. This one is a size 4. It fit pretty well through the bodice, but it was so long and had a LOT of fabric. I felt it was a bit much for my frame even if it was altered. I felt like I looked like I was playing dress up, and it was also form fitting which was one of the things I was trying to steer clear of this time. I ordered it though just to make sure. I think this dress would be beautiful on someone who is taller. It also comes in navy and a platinum color.

So many cute options; I can see why it was so hard to pick one!
Very pretty. I totally think the beige mother or the groom dress rule is outdated. I think erring on the understated side is fine, but that doesn’t have much to do with the color. I don’t feel obligated to find beige as a mother of a groom at all, and I have 5 boys, and I’m looking forward to finding some elegant but fun dresses.
I can’t wait to see the photographs of the wedding. Katie will be a beautiful bride and so will her mother. No more little Katie and her big bows. ☺️
